Important Notice

IMPORTANT NOTICE: To Members of the Hammond Conservancy District and all other Persons and Entities Claiming Water Rights in the San Juan River System (surface and underground)

The Eleventh Judicial District Court for the State of NM has ordered commencement of an expedited inter se proceeding to adjudicate all of the water rights claims of the Navajo Nation within the San Juan Basin
All landowners who have water rights claims in the Basin should have received a notice of the proceeding around the beginning of May 2011.

According to the article on page 1 of the Talon, a meeting was held at Bloomfield High School on May 11th where Attorney Victor Marshall explained the importance of getting involved in the process to dispute the adjudication proceeding. The meeting was hosted by the San Juan Agricultural Water Users Association.

According to the notice of proceeding, other meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • June 22 – 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shiprock Chapter House
  • June 23 – 2 to 4 p.m. at the San Juan County Building Commission Chambers, 100 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec
  • June 23 – 6 to 8 p.m. at Piedra Vista High School, 5700 College Blvd. in Farmington
  • June 29 – 10 a.m. to Noon at Navajo Technical College, Highway 371, Crownpoint.
  • June 29 - 6 to 8 p.m. at Bloomfield High School, 520 North 1st Street in Bloomfield

It is important that all parties interested in preserving their water rights show up at one of these meetings where the State Engineer will try to explain the deal. 
If you plan to participate in the proceeding, the notice must be returned to the Clerk’s Office, Eleventh Judicial District Court, 103 South Oliver Drive, Aztec, NM 87410 by 5:00 P.M. September 16, 2011.
Participants must also attend the scheduling conference at the McGee Park Convention Center on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
